Prince ready to reign

TRAINING partners Aaron Bain and Jake Webster hope Prince Of Zanzibar can break his recent racing pattern when he heads to Globe Derby on Saturday night.

With three wins and three seconds from his last six starts, Prince Of Zanzibar is the one to beat, however, his sequence has provided the horsemen with something to ponder.

“He did a good job to win his last start, but lately his form reads second, win, second, win, second, win, so hopefully he can break that pattern and win again as opposed to another second,” Bain said.

“We’re very happy with the way he is going and are confident he can score again, but it is another step up for him.”

Kept fresh since his victory earlier this week, the gelding will begin from barrier four, with Bain stating the son of Art Colony is likely to be eased away from the mobile given the likelihood of a quick tempo early.

Also racing in solid form, Ricks Shadow has drawn two, with handy performer Mach Denario to come from the pole.

“Four is a bit of an awkward draw and our early thought is he will probably go back and be given time to settle as there is a bit of speed inside us,” Bain said.

“He can do it tough, so being in the breeze isn’t a huge concern, but he does have great closing speed, which we may rely on this week.”

With no major plans in mind for the five-year-old, Bain and Webster will select suitable races as they become available.

“At this stage he will just go through the grades and we’ll see how he can measure up,” Bain said. “When gets to free-for-all he will probably find it tough, so time will tell.”
