Prince reigns supreme

PLANS remain uncertain with promising pacer Port Au Prince despite his success at Club Menangle last night.

Having his third start since crossing the Tasman, Port Au Prince completed a clean sweep of the Carousel Series by capturing the Group Two Final.

Pleased with the gelding’s performances, trainer KerryAnn Morris stated connections will enjoy the moment before considering Port Au Prince’s next target.

“We bought him for a group, including a first time owner, just to enjoy racing a horse,” Morris said. “The Carousel being on just happened to be good timing for him.

“He is still lowly-assessed at this stage, but we’ll take in last night’s win before we sit down and discuss where to go from here.”

With Morris’ husband, Robbie, in the cart, Port Au Prince led from the pole before being eased to take a trail behind the favourite, Tay Tay.

Angled away from the pegs halfway along the home straight, Port Au Prince reclaimed the lead in the last stride to score by a neck from the front runner.

Heaven On High was four metres away third in 1:56.8 over 2300 metres.

“It was very exciting for the owners as it’s a really nice race to win,” Morris said. “We knew he would draw well and everything panned out perfectly.

“From what he has shown so far he should be able to win a few more at Menangle on a Saturday night.”
