Prominent couple dominate meeting
LEADING reinsman Wayne Hill equalled a personal best in Gawler yesterday.
No stranger to dominating a meeting, with multiple victories on a card a regular occurrence, Hill won six of the 10 races at the provincial circuit.
Completing an early double in the first two events, Hill then went on a rampage to make a clean sweep of the Quaddie – races four, five, six and seven!
As such, Hill registered his third sextet, with the first coming in Victor Harbor on December 28, 2015 and the second in Port Pirie eight weeks ago.
Notching doubles, trebles and quartets seemingly at will, Hill also has four quintets to his credit.
Hill is one of only a handful of drivers to win six or more races at a South Australian meeting, with Geoff Webster, David Harding, Dani Hill and Ryan Hryhorec completing the ‘Fab Five’.
“I had a good book of drives which helps,” Hill said. “I went into the card thinking I could head home with a bag full if things went my way, and to my good fortune, they did.”
Hill kick-started his afternoon with the Aaron Bain-trained duo Shezamajorstar and Princess Chilla before combining with horsemen Luke O’Neill and Jason Booth to score with Muscle Miss and Mercury Rising.
Bain and O’Neill provided Hill with the last two legs of the Quaddie – Wings On The Line and Majestic Courtney – for a $1732,70 dividend.
Bain also prepared Im Themightylucy, driven by Hill’s fiance Samantha Pascoe, to register a quartet.
In a day of multiples, Pascoe landed a double by reining Told You Twice to a soft win for trainer Taya Warren.
