IT IS fair to say Tasmania’s young drivers – along with Tasracing – should find the time to thank leading trainer Ben Yole.
With the governing body looking to begin its Novice Drivers’ Series across two nights this weekend the request was made for nominations, with Yole answering the call.
Two heats, consisting of 10 runners, are scheduled to be staged at Devonport on Friday night, with Yole providing seven starters.
Hobart is also programmed to host a pair of heats – consisting of 10 runners per field – on Sunday night, with Yole’s stable supplying 10 runners!
Given the numbers in the heats, and support races on the cards, Yole’s nominations have certainly helped guarantee the novice drivers can display their skills in such a series.
Last season Yole broke Wayne Rattray’s long standing Tasmanian training record with 124 wins.
Rattray won 123 races in 1988/89, which was a 13-month term.
The previous record for a tradition season was Neville Webberley’s 118 wins set in 1990/91.
As such, the two records have become one under Yole’s name.
Yole cracked the ton for the third consecutive season when No Apachemee scored at Launceston last weekend.
With his tally sitting on 101 wins this term, Yole is an outside chance of breaking his record before August 31.
There are nine Tassie meetings programmed before the end of July, with August dates yet to be posted on the national website.
