Reign of terror continues – arsonist burns vehicle in racetrack car park

A REIGN of terror targeting South Australia’s Johnson family was taken to another level during the weekend.

In the sixth of a series of attacks, reinsman Corey Johnson’s Holden Colorado was set alight in the Globe Derby car park on Saturday night.

A suspect was seen talking on a phone while circling the parking area on an e-bike before dousing Johnson’s vehicle in petrol and setting it ablaze.

The vandalism occurred while Johnson was driving in race four.

It’s the second Johnson family car to be set alight, with the other – a Holden Commodore – falling victim to a molotov cocktail at the family home last month.

In December, another molotov cocktail was thrown over the property’s fence.

The incidents also include dumping oil, hardware items and broken glass on the Johnson’s training track.

Harness Racing SA stewards released a statement on January 15 calling for “information in relation to a disturbing and escalating campaign of criminal conduct directed at the Johnson Stables.

“These acts are criminal, deliberate, and dangerous. They pose a serious threat to the safety of people, horses, and property.

“This behaviour goes well beyond nuisance vandalism – it is reckless, malicious, and intolerable.”

Fellow horsemen Mario Borg and Ben Weidenbach reacted to the latest attack by chasing the perpetrator along Port Wakefield Road.

“Ben and I jumped in my car and chased him, but he crossed Port Wakefield Road into the Mawson Lakes estate,” Borg said. “I don’t give a shit about the cars, they’re insured, but what happens if someone walks out there and the car goes boom, explodes and someone gets killed!

“There are no cameras in the car park either, so nothing much can be done.”

As with the previous incidents, Police are investigating the matter.
