BLAKE JONES enjoyed a stellar start to the weekend last night.
Making his way to the Leeton program, Jones was thrilled to end the evening with six-and-a-half winners.
Registering a personal best six wins in the sulky, Jones was also thrilled to see his beloved St Kilda football team easily beat Carlton.
“I don’t get to enjoy as many St Kilda wins as I would like these days,” Jones said. “But it was only Carlton, so really it was just half a win.”
As for his deeds in the cart, Jones captured six of the eight races on the card to become just the fifth person to complete a sextet in New South Wales in more than a century.
Bill Martin was the first to achieve the feat in Bathurst on April 7, 1905.
“It all worked out quite well,” Jones said. “On paper I thought the six were all good chances as they were the favourites, so I had to feel reasonably confident.
“We know favourites get beaten, so I didn’t really expect to come home with six winners.
“Plus there’s been plenty of time I’ve headed to the track expecting a good result and it hasn’t worked out that way.”
Kick-starting his domination with Bustn Feelz Good in the opening event, Jones was then successful with Sunrising, Destiny Belle, Our Buller Boy, Girl Of The Glen and Im Feeling Firey.
Jones’ previous best was a pair of quintets at Wagga and Griffith.
