RISING star Ignatius has been named Tasmania Horse of the Year.

Owned by Lyrae Rattray the gelding was a popular choice among attendees at Tasracing’s annual function at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston.

Successful at 11 of his 13 starts for the term, with a second also to his credit, Ignatius’ wins include a clean sweep of the New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge.

Beginning the season on the Apple Isle under the care of Todd Rattray, Ignatius was transferred to James Rattray to finish out 2017/18.

The son of Roll With Joe was also a unanimous choice for Three-Year-Old Colt/Gelding of the Year, with his dam Ashkalini recognized as Broodmare of the Year.

Promising youngster Ideal Bliss is the Three-Year-Old Filly of the Year, with Resurgent Storm and Karalta Moondance taking out the two-year-old titles.

Harjeet – a stablemate of Ignatius – was recognized as the Four-Year-Old Entire/Gelding of the Year, with Call Her Julie his mare counterpart.

The evening also included the presentation of the prestigious Edgar Tatlow Medal, which was rewarded to Chester Bullock.
