EXCITING pacer Harjeet appears to have been handed tonight’s Raider Stake Final on a silver platter.
Winner of his last seven starts – including the Easter Cup against open class opponents – Harjeet is returning to age-restricted company in Devonport.
If that wasn’t enough to see the Todd Rattray-trained gelding start favourite, he has drawn to lead throughout from the pole.
As such the son of Rocknroll Hanover is a prohibitive $1.04 shot with TAB Fixed Odds.
Usain Jolt, which will begin from the second row, is the only runner under double figures at $9.50.
“It looks like it is his race to lose, but he still has to get out there and get the job done,” Rattray said.
“The draw is great, he’s feeling terrific and everything has lined up well.
“Barring something going wrong, he should come home with the win.”
With Harjeet also eligible for the Empire Stallions Vicbred Super Series, Rattray will decide during the next week whether to head across Bass Strait with the four-year-old.
Heats of the futurity are programmed to be held at Ballarat on June 22, with the $125,000 Final to be staged at Tabcorp Park Melton on July 7.
“No decision has been made on where he will race beyond tonight’s Final,” Rattray said. “The Vicbred is an option, but I will wait and see how he is in the days after this.
“Given he is so big and lightly-raced, I may even tip him out for next season.”
