Rising star heading interstate

RISING star I Am Hellbound is heading interstate.

Nominated for Saturday night’s Albion Park meeting, I Am Hellbound is scheduled to be taken north across the border on Tuesday.

With several key targets earmarked for the son of Father Patrick, trainer Scott Hewitt will undertake the trek to Queensland a week early to give I Am Hellbound “a look around”.

I Am Hellbound rounded off his Sunshine State campaign with an impressive win at Club Menangle last weekend.

“He doesn’t really need to race this week, but I want him to have a look around Albion Park before the next week’s big one (The Great Square),” Hewitt said. “He does thrive on racing, so that’s another reason to get him up there.

“We will head off on Tuesday night and get to Tweed Heads mid morning Wednesday, where we will stay while we’re in Queensland.”

With The Great Square offering a ‘golden ticket’ to the Inter Dominion Final on July 18, Hewitt confirmed I Am Hellbound will accept the invitation.

“It’s a big ‘if’, but if he does get into the Inter we will race in it,” Hewitt said. “Everything has to go to plan for that to happen, including him racing the week after The Great Square.

“That means he will have to race three weeks in a row up there, plus he’s raced the last two at Menangle, but like I said, he thrives on racing.”

As for his latest victory, I Am Hellbound outstayed his rivals by occupying the ‘death seat’ on his way to a 1:53.9 win over a mile as Toro Stride and London To A Brick filled the placings.

With Hewitt in the cart, the four-year-old took his record to 10 wins and 11 placings from 30 starts for earnings of $123,958.
