HOT on the heels of her twin brother Will’s elevation to Monthly medal winner, Hannah Rixon began to make her mark at Tabcorp Park Menangle in 2022.

Hannah was our April winner as interest in this year’s Medal begins to grow.

Ashley Hart (January), Will Rixon (February) and Sofia Arvidsson (March) were last week named the winners of the first three months’ tally for their efforts at Australia’s No 1 harness racing track.

This week we announce the next three winners . . . Hannah Rixon, Steph Morris and Lleyton Green.

Hannah had a terrific month in April, while Stephanie Morris continued her climb up the ranks of the young drivers when she won the May Medal, while Lleyton Green was the June winner.

The Club Menangle Medal is our annual competition to encourage and pay tribute to the efforts of the young people in harness racing and their efforts at our premier track, Tabcorp Park Menangle.

While many of these people probably feel the long hours involved with training and working horses go unrewarded, this is a reminder that they are indeed being noticed – and by those that matter.

Each month our judging panel at Club Menangle and National Trotguide sift through (and discuss) the results from Club Menangle’s meetings so we can judge the best performances of the month and acknowledge that by making them our Monthly Medal winners.

For the rest of February we will reveal the winners from each month of 2022 with the Club Menangle Medal winner to be announced on Sunday, February 26.

It’s been another year to savour too, with the girls more than matching the boys with several outstanding performances during a competitive year of harness racing.

But we cannot keep it a secret any longer and the winner of the Club Menangle Medal is about to be chosen from the monthly winners with three more announced today.

Open to the newer participants in the industry each month, a winner is selected on performances at Tabcorp Park Menangle and at the conclusion of the season the Medal winner is chosen from (last year’s) 12 finalists.

Last year’s winner, Jack Callaghan, is not eligible to win future medals to enable others to share in future spoils.

Here’s the April, May and June winners for the year, with the other winners to be named in coming days.

    APRIL STAR: Hannah Rixon

    April:

HANNAH RIXON: She may be quiet and unassuming but when it comes to driving winners and being competitive on the track, this young lady is right in the thick of the action. Bred to be good, with harness racing blood coursing through her veins, this daughter of Peter Rixon and Cindy Turnbull is one of the most improved young drivers going around and is finding herself in demand by a growing number of trainers.

    MAY WINNER: Steph Morris.

    May:

STEPHANIE MORRIS: Marrying David Morris was just one of many highlights for Steph in 2022 and she continues to land winner after winner at the premier track where she works for several of our leading trainers, including veteran former Miracle Mile winner Harry Martin and his team. Now poised on 97 career wins, the 100 beckons and despite a tumble at Penrith a few weeks ago, Steph is back to her best form and landed a winning double on her first night back in the sulky. There’s plenty more to come.

    June:

LLEYTON GREEN: He’s only 19, but already Lleyton’s horsemanship and driving skills are without question with 133 winners to his name and a strike rate that many drivers would love to possess. Lleyton has found a happy home with the Team McDowell stable, which boasts some extraordinary horse talent and are prolific winners at Menangle and Penrith. Dean and Kerry McDowell are impressed with his enthusiasm and willingness to learn and more winners are certain to come his way in the weeks ahead.
