TONIGHT’S Golden Apple Final in Launceston is shaping up to be an intriguing event.
Following heats being conducted at the same venue last weekend, a field consisting of some of Tasmania’s best pacers will contest the $30,000 feature.
Heading the assembly is rising star Scooterwillrev, which has been top of his crop since debut.
Successful in his qualifier, the son of Somebeachsomewhere is a $1.70 on TAB Fixed Odds despite drawing the outside of the front row in the 2200-metre handicap.
Pleased with his stable flagship’s form, trainer Craig Hayes predicted Scooterwillrev will “be sharper” for the Final.
“He pulled up great, has been terrific in his work and I couldn’t be happier with him,” Hayes said. “He is in as great a shape as can be expected.
“There is no doubt he will be sharper again this week, but he needs to be from that draw against a pretty hot field.
“He won’t get his way from there and will probably have to do to a bit of work.”
Citing Harjeet and Illegal Immigrant as the pair to beat, Hayes is also weary of fellow heat winner, Taurisi.
Filling the placings behind Scooterwillrev in their qualifier, Harjeet and Illegal Immigrant will share the 10-metre mark.
“Harjeet and Illegal Immigrant are the two to beat, but I have to give the edge to Harjeet,” Hayes said.
“Taurisi didn’t begin the best in his heat, but he is right in it from the front line.”
