Shocking draws dent shot at history
SHOCKING draws have dented Jason Grimson’s bid for another slice of history.
Set to contest Saturday night’s The Blacks A Fake at Albion Park, the New South Wales-based horseman is aiming to become the first trainer to complete a hat-trick in Queensland’s Grand Circuit event.
Known as the Sir Clive Uhr Championship when the circuit was inaugurated in 1977, the feature was renamed the Queensland Pacing Championship in 1981 before replacing the Winter Cup in the July timeslot and being rebranded as The Blacks A Fake in 2017.
Luke McCarthy has completed a hat-trick twice as a reinsman, winning in 2004, ’05 and 06 and again in 2010, ’11 and ’12.
Capturing the 2022 edition with Majestic Cruiser, Grimson repeated the dose with Swayzee last season.
Having driven the successful duo, Cameron Hart will also aim for a hat-trick when he once again takes the reins behind Swayzee.
Swayzee is one of five Grimson-prepared runners in the $400,000, with each drawn the second row.
In fact, once the emergency is removed, Grimson’s group will complete the entire back line!
Swayzee has fared best in barrier nine as he has drawn behind his younger half-brother, Leap To Fame, which is expected to have no trouble leading from the pole.
TAB Fixed Odds have Leap To Fame listed as a $1.40 favourite for Grant Dixon, with Swayzee considered his main danger at $5.50.
Runner-up behind Leap To Fame in last weekend’s Sunshine Sprint, District Attorney is on the third line of better at $10 from gate 11.
