PLANS remain modest with recent stable acquisition Leaf Stride despite his success yesterday.

Having his fourth start for prominent couple Joe and Mary Rando, Leaf Stride scored at Club Menangle.

The trotter had been among the placegetters during two of his previous outings.

“We quite like him,” Joe said. “It was just a matter of being in the right spot at the right time for him to end up at our stable, but he has impressed since he got here.

“Emilio (Rosati, owner) had him loaded on a float at Menangle and was ready to take him away when he asked me ‘do you want to give him a try?’ which I did.

“Mary has been doing a lot of the work with him and he’s responded quite well.

“He’s lightly-raced for a five-year-old and gives the impression he will keep improving with age and experience.”

Driven by James Rattray, Leaf Stride was caught wide from the outside of the front row before being sent forward to test the leader, Watts Up Partytime, from the ‘death seat’.

Muscling his way to the front at the top of the home straight, the son of Love You completed a metre-and-a-half win from Oh Nova Love.

Melpark Magic was 15 metres away in 1:59.7 over 2300 metres.

“We’re very pleased with that run,” Joe said. “He’s done all the work and still hit the line strongly.

“There are no big plans for him at this stage, just progress through the grades.”
