HE’S not saying she will win, but he’s certainly not prepared to admit she can’t!
That’s the mindset of astute horseman Roy Roots junior ahead of tomorrow night’s New South Wales Oaks at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
Roots will contest the $200,000 Group One with talented filly Miss Streisand, which has drawn perfectly in the pole.
“It is a great draw,” Roots said. “If she can come out and get the right trip she can go close at the finish.
“I’m not saying she can beat the favourites, but with the right draw and run she can give them a fright.
“I think she can hold up early from the pole and then hand up to the right option.”
Third in her heat last weekend, the daughter of A Rocknroll Dance will strip fitter for the outing, which was her first in six weeks, according to Roots.
“I worked her with The Black Prince on Tuesday and she gave him a cold,” Root said. “She is feeling terrific and has trained on great since last week.
“She needed the run last week as she was first-up for six weeks. She got a little tired over last 100 but will thrive on run as it was also her first go over 2400 metres.”
Citing Our Princess Tiffany as the one to beat, Roots also expects Kualoa to fight out the finish.
Our Princess Tiffany is the $1.40 TAB Fixed Odds favourite from barrier six, with Kualoa on the second line of betting at $4 from gate 11.
Miss Streisand is midrange at $21.
“Our Princess Tiffany is something special and is the one they all have to beat,” Roots said. “But we’ll be doing our best to beat her.
“Kualoa is also a very high quality filly but hasn’t been dealt any favours from the draw.
“I don’t think that will be enough to stop her from being in it ’till the end.”
