HISTORY was made in Melton tonight.

By capturing the time-honoured V L Dullard Cup, super trotter Just Believe took his earnings past the $1million mark.

In doing so, the son of Orlando Vici became the first Australian-bred squaregaiter to join the southern hemisphere millionaire’s club.

Nine New Zealanders have achieved the feat, with Lyell Creek the richest thanks to his bankroll of $2,256,724.

Amazingly, before Just Believe claimed the mantle as Australia’s top earner last June, Scotch Notch held the record for almost four decades!

Racing throughout Australasia and in America, Scotch Notch earned $670,755 before being retired in 1986.

    CARDIGAN BAY

As for his milestone moment, Just Believe worked to the lead from barrier four before scoring by two-and-a-half metres from Queen Elida.

Mufasa Metro was six-and-a-half metres away third.

Trained by Jess Tubbs and driven by her husband, Greg Sugars, Just Believe rated 2:00 over 2240 metres.

In an amazing turn of events, less than an hour later, Just Believe’s stablemate, Better Eclipse, became the industry’s newest millionaire.

Proving too good in the Casey Classic, Better Eclipse extended his record to 21 wins and 21 placings from 53 starts for earnings of $1,013,270.

Better Eclipse became the 111th Australasian pacing millionaire since Cardigan Bay set the standard in 1968.
