TAB’s Eureka slot up for grabs
TAB will select its runner for the upcoming TAB Eureka from the Racenet Discovery Stakes at Club Menangle on August 31, just a week out from the world’s richest harness race.
The scratching of former slot holder and pre-race favourite Frankie Ferocious has allowed for the unique approach of TAB choosing their entrant on the same night as the four emergencies are determined for the TAB Eureka.
TAB’s selection panel will meet directly after the Racenet Discovery Stakes to decide who their runner will be for the following Saturday.
“It’s a totally new approach for TAB and a great way to provide another horse with one last opportunity to gain a start,” said TAB’s Head of Racing Industry Partnerships, Brett Boyd.
“It should add even more excitement to the build-up of what’s become one of the calendar highlights.
“It will no doubt be a hotly contested race on August 31 with a TAB Eureka spot now up for grabs on top of selection of the four emergencies. It also allows us the chance to pick a fit, in-form runner leading up to the TAB Eureka.
“We’ll sit down straight after the race and decide which horse we think performed best and will be our best shot in the TAB Eureka, so it won’t necessarily be the race winner at Club Menangle that night but one we think can win the big one.”
The TAB Eureka will be held at Club Menangle on September 7 and is the world’s richest Harness race, featuring $2.1 million dollars in prizemoney.
Never Ending is currently the $3.80 favourite with TAB in an open field, ahead of Don Hugo who is $9 into $4.40, while Fighter Command, Major Delight and High Above are on the third line at $5, and Captains Knock at $5.50.
