TAKE A BOW AUSTRALIA’S LEADING LADIES
IT’S been said before, but simply has to be said again out loud (or in caps) TAKE A BOW AUSTRALIA’S LEADING LADIES.
With the Teal Pant Campaign ending yesterday, reinswomen across the nation compiled an extraordinary tally.
Close to 300 reinswomen throughout Australia and New Zealand sported specially-designed driving pants between February 1 and March 15 as part of the extraordinary crusade to raise crucial funding and valuable awareness towards ovarian cancer research and education.
Each state’s governing body, various principal clubs and the TAB combined to donate $400 to WomenCan per victory.
Western Australia took a different approach by donating $15,000.
Along with the search for a cure, the funds are distributed to the research nurse program, education and prevention programs, where ovarian cancer survivors go in to the classrooms of medical students to present about their journey of diagnosis and living with a life threatening disease
With a sensational eight wins added on the last day, Australia’s Teal Pants Team has amassed 373 victories.
One of those wins came courtesy of Amanda Dean who trained and drove Smokin Tally in Albury.
After enjoying a perfect one-one trail the 12-year-old scored in 2:02.6 over 2170 metres as Vin Dan and Fantasy Blaster filled the placings.
“It was great to get another win and raise much-needed funds for women’s cancer,” Dean said. “He hadn’t won for a while, but I was confident in his chances.
“After getting the right run he hit the line well.”
Teal Pants founder Duncan McPherson was full of praise for the squad.
“Once again our reinswomen have done an amazing job,” McPherson said.
“What we have managed to achieve during the past decade in what began as a Victorian-based fundraiser to being Australasia-wide is truly astonishing.
“During that time we’ve raised more than $2million on and off the track, which is just incredible and a credit to everyone involved.
“There are simply too many people to thank individually, but they all know how grateful I am for their support.”
