FRESH from his demolition of last weekend’s Victoria Cup, Tiger Tara will back-up at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night.
Stating the stallion “pulled up like he didn’t even have a run”, trainer Kevin Pizzuto has entered Tiger Tara in the Les Chant Cup over 2300 metres.
The son of Bettors Delight will be joined in the Group Three by his stablemate, Majordan, which was unplaced in the Victoria Cup.
“They’ve both come through the run just fine,” Pizzuto said. “Tiger Tara pulled up like he didn’t even have a run, while Majordan was bouncing around the next morning.
“Tiger Tara is right back at his best and that’s where I want to keep him as we get ready for the New Zealand Cup next month.
“Majordan is also going to New Zealand, but will only race in the Free-For-All.”
Although the field represents a drop in class on his previous assignment, Tiger Tara’s task has been made difficult by the barrier draw.
In what has become his regular starting position, the eight-year-old will begin from the outside of the front row. Majordan will come from gate nine.
“I knew he would draw out there under the preferential system,” Pizzuto said. “I don’t know if the horse would know what to do if he didn’t barrier 10 there these days.
“Except for the Miracle Mile Carnival he’s had barrier 10 up here since July last year!”
Set to cross the Tasman during the first week of November, Tiger Tara is likely to have one more start before heading to the Shaky Isles.
“At this stage I will give him another run before we go to New Zealand,” Pizzuto said. “I’ll see how he is after this week, but a run in a fortnight would be ideal.”
