LONG regarded as a good horse’s race, producing so many champions over the years, Hezatreacherous joined the long line of stars with a win in tonight’s Group Three Firecoat Sapling Stakes.

A false start upset a few of the runners but the KerryAnn and Rob Morris trained Hezatreacherous (Captaintreacherous-Shezacullen) handled the drama better than his rivals to score a one and a half metre win over Springfield Amore with Ultimate Cruza five metres further back in third spot.

The winner rated 1:54.4 for the mile with Rob Morris in the sulky.

And while he admitted the youngster wanted to stargaze and have a good look around when he found the top, he still knuckled down in the straight to score a strong win.

Following a first-up second at Bathurst, Rob admitted he wasn’t certain he wanted to tackle the Sapling Stakes.

“But I was over-ruled by KerryAnn and Josh [Gallagher], as well as the owners,”  he said.

“He has no boots and a long headcheck . . . he’s just awesome really,” said the ace reinsman.

“This year KerryAnn wanted to do things a bit differently with our young horses and it’s been about educating them properly rather than running times.

“The ones that have gone to the races have really gone well too.

“This boy doesn’t wear earplugs but I might have to put some on him the way he raced tonight.”

Morris said he had to make his move when he did in the race and it turned out a winning one as he sat outside Ultimate Cruza before the home turn before coming away for an impressive win.

“He’ll go to Bathurst for the Gold Crown carnival now in a couple of weeks and after that we’d love to take him to Queensland for a big race there, but at this stage it’s one step at a time and we’ll worry about Bathurst first.”

Certainly Heztreacherous joined some stellar names with his Sapling Stakes success.

Among the winner who kicked on the become champions are the likes of Paleface Adios, Don’t Retreat, Rip Van Winkle, Stroma, Bastille beggar, Smooth Satin, Bling It On and Lombo Pocket Watch, to name a few.
