POPULAR horsewoman Tayla French proved to be a rose between thorns during yesterday’s Cobram program.

With seven races on the card, French was the only reinswoman to make their way into the winners’ circle after scoring with Hateitwhenyourrite.

Away from the joy of steering the trotter to his first success since October 2020, French was “super excited” to add another win to the Team Teal tally.

Along with every reinswoman in Australasia, French is wearing specially-designed teal pants as part of the extraordinary campaign to raise crucial funding and valuable awareness towards ovarian cancer research and education.

Thanks to French’s victory, $400 was donated to WomenCan.

Hateitwhenyourrite’s upset win was French’s third since the campaign began on Tuesday.

Not prepared to bask in the glory, French is determined to complete as many wins as possible before the fundraiser ends on March 15.

“It was terrific to get another win for Team Teal,” French said. “It would be nice to keep the ball rolling and get a win in Maryborough today and then beyond.

“The more wins we get as a team the bigger difference we can make.”

Although the Team Teal is a harness racing-orientated program, French stated the broader goal is one which ‘drives’ all participants.

“Ovarian cancer can happen to anyone at any time, and looking from outside, it touches every female in some way,” French said “It is great to see everyone in harness racing get behind it.

“Sadly, one of the women in harness racing will be affected from ovarian cancer and we’ll all feel it inside, but this goes beyond our industry and into the wider community.

“Fingers crossed we can help make a difference and it will eventually affect less woman in the future.”
