STAR pacer Tiger Tara will continue his long build up to his Grand Circuit title defence when he competes at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night.
Kept fresh since his unplaced performance at Albion Park three weeks ago, Tiger Tara is set to race on a regular basis as part of trainer Kevin Pizzuto’s plans.
Looking to follow a schedule similar to the one he mapped out at the beginning of this term, Pizzuto stated Tiger Tara will require “plenty of racing” to maintain his fitness.
Pizzuto’s long term targets include the Victoria, New Zealand and A G Hunter Cups, along with Tiger Tara’s Inter Dominion defence and his home state’s major – $1million Miracle Mile.
The son of Bettor’s Delight also won the Victoria and Hunter Cups in Melton.
“He’ll race pretty regularly now as he will need plenty racing to keep him fit,” Pizzuto said. “It’s taken a while to get him up this time as he’s getting older.
“I can’t let him have too much time off or away from racing as he’ll get away from me pretty quickly.
“I will keep him going around in the free-for-alls and look to race him over a mile to get some speed back.
“The Victoria Cup is the first major we will be aiming at.”
As for his pending assignment, Tiger Tara will begin from barrier seven over 2300 metres.
The eight-year-old is a $1.20 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds.
“He’s feeling really good,” Pizzuto said. “His track work has been great and I got his blood done earlier this week and he’s spot on.
“He will be very hard to beat there’s no doubt about that.”
