TOP pacer Shadow Sax will head back to the races for a late season cameo.

Sent for a spell following his Group Two win last April, Shadow Sax is set to contest the Minuteman Free-For-All at Tabcorp Park Melton on Friday night.

Trainer Emma Stewart is using the feature as a ‘tune up’ to the five-year-old’s main objective – the Breeders’ Crown Graduate Free-For-All.

Carrying a purse of $60,000, the event is scheduled to be run at the same venue on August 24.

“This race fits in nicely before the Breeders’ Crown,” Stewart said. “I’m very happy with the way he has come back.

“He’s trialled well and been working terrifically since and will be hard to beat.

“That said, whatever he does on Friday night, he will improve on before the Breeders’ Crown.”

To be driven by premier reinsman Chris Alford, the son of Shadow Play has drawn to utilise his gate speed from barrier three.

Although drawn the outside of the front row, Western Australian raider Im Rockaria shapes as Shadow Sax’s main danger.

From the Michael Brennan stable, Im Rockaria has been sent across the Nullarbor in preparation for the Breeders’ Crown Four-Year-Old Championship on August 25.

“I’m happy with his draw and he will be very hard to beat from there,” Stewart said. “Im Rockaria has won his last three starts and wouldn’t be here if his connections didn’t think he was a good chance.

“The draw has made it tougher on him, but his form suggests he is a danger.”
