OUTSTANDING trotter Maori Time will be given a farewell fitting of a touring rock star.
In what is her last season of racing, Maori Time’s final competition will be in the prestigious Elitloppet in Sweden.
Victorian trainer Brent Lilley confirmed the multiple Group One winner is booked to contest the world famous event in late May.
Maori Time is scheduled to leave Australia on May 9 in preparation for the feature on May 26 and 27.
“The opportunity to have her race on a world stage like that was too good to pass up,” Lilley said. “I look forward to being over there and seeing how well she can compete against the best from around the globe.”
Last month the daughter of Pegasus Spur set an Australasian record 1:51.5 in the Trotters’ Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle, a time Lilley is positive Maori Time can better given the right conditions.
“She ran a great time at Menangle, but Bold Eagle for example, went a second quicker a couple of weeks ago,” Lilley said. “I have no doubt she is capable of lowering her own mark.
“We’re not heading over saying she is going to win, but I’m sure she can prove competitive.
“She’s going to stud next season, so this will be her last race before having a few months to let down.”
