QUALITY filly Miss Halfpenny will continue her trek towards another Group One at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night.

Having qualified for three top shelf events during her debut season, the Paul Fitzpatrick-trained youngster was triumphant in the New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge.

The daughter of American Ideal was also runner-up in the Australian Pacing Gold Final and third in the Bathurst Gold Tiara.

This time around Miss Halfpenny will contest a New South Wales Oaks heat over 2400 metres.

Three qualifiers of the time honoured Classic are on the program, with the $200,000 decider to be run as part of next week’s super Miracle Mile card.

“She has been a top filly all the way along,” Fitzpatrick said. “She did a wonderful job last season and has continued that this time in.

“The heats are pretty strong and she hasn’t drawn the best, but hopefully she can make it through to the Final.”

Successful at her last two starts, including the Canberra Oaks, Miss Halfpenny has drawn barrier seven in the middle heat.

Despite her form, the three-year-old is among the outsiders at $26 with TAB Fixed Odds as a result of her draw.

Victorian raider Kualoa is a raging $1.50 favourite from gate three.

Winner of her two starts this season, Kualoa is one of two Emma Stewart-trained runners in the field, with Victoria Brew to come from barrier six.

“Kualoa is clearly the one to beat,” Fitzpatrick said. “She is a high class filly which also has the draw in her favour.

“Miss Halfpenny hasn’t fared well in seven, but as long as she gets a fair run at them she will be right in it.

“The main aim this week from there is to get into the Final and then we can hope for a better draw.”
