PROMINENT horseman Kevin Pizzuto is looking forward to a rematch between two star youngsters.
Trainer of talented three-year-old Picard, Pizzuto hopes the son of Roll With Joe can turn the tables on excitement machine, Ignatius, in the Breeders’ Challenge Final at Tabcorp Park Menangle on July 1.
Since joining Pizzuto’s team Picard has won seven of his eight starts, with his defeat a game second behind Ignatius in a heat of the Alabar-sponsored futurity.
Picard has won his two subsequent outings, include a semi-final at Menangle tonight.
“You can’t ask for much more from him that what he has done since he got here,” Pizzuto said. “He is a very nice horse which is more than capable of winning the Final.”
Driven by Todd McCarthy during his latest outing, Picard led throughout from the pole to score from War Dan and Bella Ball Terror.
Covering the mile in 1:52.5, the gelding’s time was six-tenths of a second faster the Ignatius in the second semi.
Trained and driven by James Rattray, the son of Roll With Joe worked to the lead before completing a soft win from The Bus and Mackeral.
“There is no doubt Ignatius is the one to beat,” Pizzuto said. “He seems to have all the arsenal of a superstar.
“On top of that he has drawn three while Picard will have to start from eight in the Final.
“A lot depends on the race, but Picard is going good enough to win if he can get an even go at it.”
