BOOKMAKERS were shown “a big hunk o’love” by Soldtoyoulady in Parkes last night.
Completing an upset victory to break her maiden, Soldtoyoulady pleased the satchel swingers, but had punters “crying in the chapel” when upstaging the odds-on pop, Multi Score.
Trained and driven by Malcolm Hutchings, Soldtoyoulady led from the pole before proving too slick “down in the alley” to score from Best Beau and Multi Score.
It certainly wasn’t “beginner’s luck” for the daughter of Aces N Sevens which rated 1:59.1 over 1660 metres to register her initial win at her 41st start.
Although it took her a while to make her way into the winners’ circle, Soldtoyoulady is still the “little darlin” of the stable according to Hutchings.
“It has taken her a bit of time to win, but she has been very consistent the whole time,” Hutchings said. “She has run quite a few placings and been thereabouts a number of times.
“My wife was bidding for her at the sales and when the bloke knocked her down he said ‘sold to you lady’ so that’s what we’ve put down for her name.
“She will go into the Final at Bathurst now and hopefully she can have them ‘all shook up’ in that.”
With Parkes’ famed Elvis Festival beginning last night, the town is gripped with Presley fever, which Hutchings stated is beneficial for the local trots and a “good luck charm” for his stable.
“The Elvis Festival started 27 years ago with a couple hundred people and now people come from all over the world,” Hutchings explained. “It triples our population.
“It is great for the town and great for the trots as they come down for the night and have a bet and drink.
“It’s also been good for us as we’ve managed to get a few wins when the Festival is on.”
