HARNESS Racing lost a loyal servant this week with the passing of former NSW Harness Racing Club President, Lindsay Nicholl.

Born on August 1, 1933 at Berala, Lindsay was 90 years of age.

A successful businessman, Lindsay Thomas Nicholl served as a director for seven years before being elected president of the NSW Trotting Club at its’ 86th Annual General Meeting on October 19, 1988.

Nicholl served as President for five years but had to stand down at the 1993 Annual General Meeting.

He served as a director of the club until retiring in October, 1994.

Also, a member of the Fairfield Club, Nicholl successfully raced many pacers over the years. Among them were Min King, Rover Girl, Highland Larry and Our Roddy.

In 1994 he received the top honour in harness racing for ‘Significant achievement and leadership’ when he was awarded the “J P Stratton Award”.

A keen golfer, who always bore a ready smile, Nicholl lived for the advancement of harness racing and was regarded by his peers as a leader who took the sport forward.

Lindsay Nicholl’s funeral will take place on Monday, October 23 at 10.30am at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, 33 Gale Street Mortlake.

National Trotguide on-line as well as Club Menangle’s Chairman, directors and staff and our big harness racing family offer our condolences to Lindsay’s sons Tony and Peter and his family and friends.
