SUCCESS at Tabcorp Park Menangle last night has earned Mach Doro an interstate trip.

Triumphant in the Les Chant Cup, Mach Doro will head south of the Murray River to contest the Victoria Cup.

Doubling as the opening leg of the Grand Circuit, the Group One is scheduled to be conducted in Melton on October 13.

Pleased with Mach Doro’s form, which has seen him register three wins and six placings from his last 10 starts, trainer Craig Cross is confident the son of Mach Three can make his presence felt in the Cup.

“He’s racing really well and deserves a shot at the Cup,” Cross said. “I’m very happy with his form and think he can go close with the right draw and run.

“This year’s Cup isn’t shaping as strong as previous years with the field likely to be horses more of his class.”

Driven by Luke McCarthy during his latest win, Mach Doro began quickly to lead from barrier nine before being eased to take a trail behind Tiger Tara.

Gaining a saloon passage along the pegs during the latter stages Mach Doro sprinted to a two-and-a-half metre win from Tiger Tara, with Village Witch a half-neck away third.

An Australian Pacing Gold purchase, the seven-year-old rated a brilliant 1:54 over 2300 metres.

“He got the right run and was able to make the most of it,” Cross said. “That will top him off perfectly for the Cup in a fortnight.”

Mach Doro’s victory was the middle leg of a treble for Cross who also scored with Replaced Eye and Rich Virgin.

Replaced Eye was also driven by McCarthy, while his brother, Todd, partnered Rich Virgin.

“It was a good night for the stable,” Cross said. “I haven’t really got any plans for Rich Virgin at this stage, but Replaced Eye will go down to Melton with Mach Doro if I can find the right race for him on Cup night.”
