VICTORIA’S two top ranked contenders have been dealt harsh draws in Saturday night’s opening Inter Dominion heats.
Set to clash in the second qualifier on the card, Shadow Sax and San Carlo will begin from the second row.
The state’s main hope of a local triumph, Shadow Sax has drawn 12 – the outside of the back line – for trainer Emma Stewart.
The son of Shadow Play was listed at four on the final rankings released by Harness Racing Victoria last week.
Shadow Sax heads into the prestigious Championship with wins from his last two starts.
“It’s not the kind of draw you want to kick off an Inter Dominion campaign,” Stewart said. “It’s made life pretty hard for him.
“Hopefully it means he is getting his bad luck with draws out of the way early in the series.
“He is fit and ready to go now it’s a matter of getting a good run from there.”
Successful at three of his four starts this season – while finishing second at his most recent outing – San Carlo received barrier 10.
Prepared by Stephen O’Donoghue and driven by Rebecca Bartley, the son of Mach Three was sitting at five on the final rankings.
