HOMETOWN hero Colt Thirty One will be given a well-earned break while connections decide his future.

With Colt Thirty One capping another stellar season with a victory in last night’s The Blacks A Fake at Albion Park, trainer Grant Dixon explained no plans have been made for the son of Mach Three.

“I hadn’t made any plans with him beyond last night,” Dixon said. “This was his Grand Final for the season.

“I will talk to Kevin and Kay (Seymour, owners) to see what they have in mind for him and we’ll go from there.

“For now he will have a short break, which may turn into a longer spell depending on what is decided.

“I’ve always felt he is the kind of horse which can take that next step to the Grand Circuit and last night’s win has given me more confidence in that being the case.”

Driven by Dixon, Colt Thirty One was eased towards the tail of the field from his second row draw as his stablemate, Ohoka Punter, dashed to the lead from barrier seven.

Forced four-deep around the home turn as Tiger Tara bullocked his way to the front, Colt Thirty One unleashed a scintillating sprint to register a metre-and-a-half win from Alta Orlando, with Letspendanitetogetha seven metres away third.

“Down the back when he was still a fair way off them I was a little worried,” Dixon said. “I knew he had plenty left in him and the others up front had done a bit of work, it was a matter of whether I would get a run at them in time.,

“Around the turn he was flying and I knew he had it won.”

Rating a track record 1:53.7 over 2680 metres, the Australian Pacing Gold eligible four-year-old stretched his record to 32 wins and nine placings from 46 starts for earnings of $711,982.
