CLASSY youngster Muscle Factory grabbed a slice of history with his phenomenal racing return at Tabcorp Park Menangle just moments ago.

First-up from a five-month spell in the Simpson Memorial, the Australian Pacing Gold graduate covered the mile in a dazzling 1:49.6.

As such, Muscle Factory became the first three-year-old in the southern hemisphere to break 1:50, with his time slashing six-tenths of a second from Vincent’s Australasian record.

Also an APG purchase, Vincent set his time at Menangle in June 2017.

Thrilled with the colt’s performance, co-trainer Shane Tritton admitted he is slightly surprised with Muscle Factory’s time.

“We have been training him up for the Derbys and longer distance, so I was thinking he may have lost a bit of edge from his speed,” Tritton said. “On top of that, he is first-up from a break and the track wasn’t lightning fast.

“He’s just got so much raw ability and has come back feeling a treat.”

With co-trainer Lauren Tritton holding the reins, Muscle Factory led throughout from the pole to score by six metres from Lochinvar Art, with Shoobee Doo a short half-head away third.

With the Victoria Derby Muscle Factory’s next target, Tritton stated the son of Roll With Joe will be a major improver for the series.

Heats of the Blue Riband are scheduled to be conducted as part of Ballarat’s popular Cup meeting on January 19, with the $200,000 Final in Melton a week later.

“This run will tighten him up before the Victoria Derby heats at Ballarat in a couple of weeks,” Tritton said. “All going well, he and Petes Big Jim will then contest the Final.

“Petes Big Jim had an interrupted preparation before tonight and has run the race of his life to finish fourth.

“He will also be better for the outing.”
