IF LAST week’s trial wasn’t warning enough, trainer Kevin Pizzuto has issued another cautioning ahead of Sunday’s Len Smith Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
Pizzuto is set to contest the Group One with noted speedster Majordan, which had a “quiet hit out” around the 1400-metre circuit last Tuesday.
Making his first public appearance in nine weeks Majordan covered the mile in 1:49.5.
“That was a good run from him,” Pizzuto said. “He did it all on his own and won by 16 metres.
“He was never pressured at any stage, but it was just the solid, quiet hit out I wanted from him.”
As pleased as he was with Majordan’s effort, Pizzuto is rapt to report the son of Art Major has improved from the outing.
“The run has done him the world of good,” Pizzuto said. “It has sharpened him right up.
“His work during the week since then has been terrific and he feels like a monster waiting to be unleashed.
“They will have to go 1:48.5 or better to beat him.”
Betting markets agree with Pizzuto after Majordan drew to lead throughout from the pole.
TAB Fixed Odds has the six-year-old at the top of the table at $2.20.
Drawn well in three, Our Uncle Sam is the $3.80, with Ellmers Image the only other runner under double figures at $4.80 from gate six.
“With all respect to the others, it’s hard to imagine Majordan being beaten,” Pizzuto said. “With that said, I wish everyone the nest of luck and may the best horse win on the day.”
