Aiming for one last hoorah!

THEIR time as South Australians is coming to an end, but Alyce and Jayson Finnis are not done yet!

Last August the Finnis’ announced they had sold their Mount Gambier property and are moving to Queensland.

Along with their three children – Judd, Sadie and Tilly – and a team of “about 10 horses”, the Finnis’ will head to their new home in Lowood by the end of the month.

Lowood is located in the Somerset Region, west of Brisbane and a short trip north of Ipswich.

Until then, the Finnis family will continue to make the long drive to Globe Derby, just as they did yesterday.

Thanks to their success with Always Dancing, the Finnis family are destined to return to harness racing’s headquarters on December 20.

That’s because Always Dancing’s victory was in a Southern Cross heat, clearing the way for the three-year-old to contest the $35,000 Final.

“Southern Cross night will be our last hoorah in South Australia,” Jayson said. “We head to Queensland the next day, so it would be nice to leave SA on a winning note.

“It was great to have him back to something like his best yesterday as he went ordinary and tests showed he was crook at his previous start.

“There’s almost two weeks before the Final, which will suit him as he gets closer to his best.

“Zenario won the other heat and he is clearly going to be tough to beat.”

Driven by Jayson, Always Dancing worked to the lead before rating 1:59.8 over 2230 metres, with his time 3.6 slower than Zenario.
