All aboard the bandwagon

ONE conversation with Suzanne Grace and you simply can’t resist jumping on the bandwagon fuelled by her passion.

Training a small team, the 72-year-old horsewoman is riding the crest of a wave thanks to in-form mare Winsome Ruby.

A veteran of 131 starts, Winsome Ruby has struck a purple patch like never before, winning her last four starts.

While there are dozens of trotters and pacers which achieve such a feat each season, Winsome Ruby’s winning streak is the longest Grace has been involved with.

“It is amazing to have her win her last four starts,” Grace said. “I’ve never had a horse get within a cooee of that.

“Shutterbug winning two races in a row for me in April 2013 is the best I’ve had.

“She has just lifted to another zone recently I am thrilled with her.”

Poised to return to Globe Derby today, Grace and Winsome Ruby will aim for a fifth consecutive triumph.

Drawn to search for the lead from barrier four, the daughter of Bacardi Lindy is a $1.55 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in her quest.

Piesridingshotgun is considered the biggest threat at $4.20 from gate four.

“I would never have dreamed she’d win four in a row, let alone be favourite for a fifth,” Grace said. “She has got a good draw and it would be wonderful if she could do it again.”
