POLICE are questioning a person of interest in relation to the Port Pirie lights failing on Saturday night.
In what was developing into a highly-successful meeting for the club, the last six races had to be cancelled when the facility’s lights failed.
Further inspection revealed multiple wires were cut which led to the malfunctioning of two light towers along the back straight.
“They have clearly been sabotaged and cut, there are no two ways about it,” Harness Racing SA chief executive Dean Elliott declared.
“Police are involved and have already been out there gathering information.
“There are a couple of witnesses which are being followed up and a person of particular interest to be questioned.
“It is devastating for the club and industry as it ruined a great night and has proven very costly for the industry.”
HRSA has transferred the balance of the meeting – which includes the Kadina Pacing and Trotting Cups – to Globe Derby tomorrow night.
