Another step towards next major target

CLASSY pacer Captains Knock will take another step towards his next major target when he returns to Club Menangle this weekend.

Successful at the world class venue a fortnight ago, Captains Knock is poised to contest the second event on Saturday night’s card for trainer Brad Hewitt.

Hewitt is priming the son of Captaintreacherous for The Rising Sun at Albion Park on July 13.

Longer term, Captains Knock is being aimed at The Eureka at Club Menangle on September 7.

Captains Knock will occupy the Cordina slot in the $2.1million extravaganza.

“He is coming along nicely,” Hewitt said. “I was very happy with his run a couple of weeks ago and his work has lifted since.

“I’m getting him ready for The Rising Sun in Queensland, which means he will have another run after Saturday before we head north.

“Then he’ll have a couple of quiet weeks before I put him around again to have him at his peak for The Eureka about seven weeks later.”

Partnering the four-year-old during his latest win, Will Rixon will take the reins behind Captains Knock again, with the duo to start from barrier 10 over a mile.

Despite his difficult draw Captains Knock is a $2 favourite, with his stablemate, Taipo, considered the biggest threat at $2.80 from gate eight.

“Taipo galloped out last week, but I’m not taking anything from that as it was the first time he’s done it and there were extenuating circumstances,” Hewitt said.

“I’ll be driving him on Saturday night and think he is Captains Knock’s main danger.”
