Award-winning matron’s next feature winner?

WELL-BRED pacer Adam Crocker has a prime opportunity to join his highly-successful sibling as a feature race winner this weekend.

By Somebeachsomewhere, Adam Crocker is from award-winning broodmare Aratusa Lass, which boasts a perfect record from seven starters, which includes Group One winner Major Crocker.

As for Adam Crocker, he’s among the leading prospects in Saturday night’s Australian Pacing Gold Consolation Final at Albion Park.

The four-year-old earned a berth in the Group Two with an impressive first-up victory in his heat a fortnight ago.

In what was his debut for local trainer Chantal Turpin, Adam Crocker rated 1:54.1 over 1660 metres in his first run since December.

“I was very happy with his run in the heat,” owner Gary Crocker said. “He hadn’t raced for four months, so it was a pretty good way to start his campaign.

“Chantal said his work since then has been terrific and he’ll strip a lot fitter for the Final.”

One of two Turpin runners in the field, Adam Crocker will begin from barrier six, with his stablemate, A Rainbow Delight, to come from gate five.

A Rainbow Delight was also triumphant in her heat, rating 1:54.7.

“The draw isn’t the best, but it isn’t the worst either,” Crocker said. “He’ll go forward from there and hopefully settle in a handy position early.

“It’s a pretty even field full of talented types, which is what you’d expect from an APG Final.

“As long as he gets an even crack at them he will be hard to beat.”
