Low key celebrations for Group One winner
TO HIS dismay celebrations will be kept low key tonight for trainer Jarrod Alchin.
Despite his success in the Australian Pacing Gold Bullion at Club Menangle just moments ago, Alchin won’t be partying until the early hours of the morning.
Instead the horseman will spend the early hours of tomorrow morning heading to Queensland.
Alchin’s trip to the Sunshine State is in preparation for next weekend’s Australian Pacing Gold Bullion at Albion Park.
My Ultimate Levi made his way into the Final by finishing third in his heat at the same venue last night.
“I won’t be doing much drinking to celebrate, or even much celebrating tonight,” Alchin said. “I was in Queensland last night and am heading back tomorrow.
“It’s been a busy weekend, but well worth it so far.
“Hopefully I’ll be saying the same thing this time next Saturday night.”
As for his latest moment in the spotlight, Alchin prepared My Ultimate Byron to secure the Group One with Cameron Hart in the sulky.
Beginning quickly to find the lead from barrier six, My Ultimate Byron was promptly challenged for the front by Mahomes, which saw the pair cover the first quarter in a blistering 25.4 seconds!
Given a ‘breather’ during the middle stages, the son of Somebeachsomewhere strode clear of the pack at the top of the home straight to complete a 13-metre win from Rocknpenny.
My Ultimate Cobber, a stablemate of the winner, was two metres away third.
Covering the mile in 1:52.4, My Ultimate Byron remains undefeated from three starts.
“That is the first time he’s been asked to come out hard and he still found the line well…like the good ones do,” Alchin said.
“Cam said he can’t believe how easily he did it tonight and just gives the feeling of being one out of the box.”
Unlike Alchin’s busy schedule, the two-year-old is heading for a spell.
“I’ll give him a break now,” Alchin said. “He’ll have six weeks off then come back for the New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge and the Breeders’ Crown.”
