Bromac secures berth in premier event
A PLAN of attack for Zeuss Bromac will be made during the next few days.
Thanks to his success in tonight’s Hondo Grattan Stake at Club Menangle, Zeuss Bromac has secured a berth in the famed Chariots Of Fire.
Australasia’s premier four-year-old event, the $200,000 Group One is scheduled to be conducted around the 1400-metre circuit in a fortnight.
With the son of Bettors Delight just reaching his peak after three runs back from a break, trainer Paul Fitzpatrick is yet to decide if he will race Zeuss Bromac next week as a lead in to his main mission.
“I haven’t decided which way I will head with him,” Fitzpatrick said. “I’ll think about it over the next few days.
“I may find a race for him somewhere, or quite possibly just give him a hit out at Menangle to keep him sharp.
“Either way he is in perfect condition right now and I’ll just have to keep him there.”
Surged out of gate to find the pegs from barrier five, Zeuss Bromac was unable to hold out Crunch Time which was driven vigorously to lead from gate seven.
Immediately angled away from the pegs by Fitzpatrick’s reinsman-son Gavin, Zeuss Bromac was sent forward to take over the pacemaker’s role.
Digging deep along the home straight, the entire scored by a metre-and-a-half from Stylish Memphis.
Jay Ok, a stablemate of the winner, was a half-neck away third.
Covering the mile in 1:50.6, Zeuss Bromac extended his record to seven wins and 11 placings from 20 starts for earnings of $234,205.
“He’s had to have two cracks at leading and still found plenty up the straight,” Fitzpatrick said. “It was a solid run which he will benefit from.”
