Buzz pacer to make surprise appearance
BUZZ youngster Loucasso will make a surprise appearance at Club Menangle tonight.
Following his success in last week's Breeders' Challenge Final at the premier venue trainer Seaton Grima stated Loucasso will be kept fresh ahead of the The Eureka slot race.
Australia's richest event, the $1.5million feature is scheduled to be conducted at Club Menangle on November 21.
Keen to give the three-year-old a hit out over 2300 metres - the same distance as The Eureka - Grima planned to trial Loucasso next week.
With Loucasso thriving after his Group One triumph, however, Grima has elected to sharpen the son of Sweet Lou under race conditions.
As such, Loucasso will contest the opening race on the card, with his opposition including The Eureka candidate and former stablemate I Am The Storm.
Undefeated from five starts since joining Grima's stable this year, Loucasso was trained by Victorian horsewoman Emma Stewart as a two-year-old, where he registered seven wins and a second from nine outings.
One of six pacers Stewart has sent north this weekend in hope of attracting a slot in The Eureka, I Am The Storm boasts an impressive record of five wins and a third from seven starts this season.
Despite stepping up in grade and distance, Loucasso is a $1.12 TAB Fixed Odds favourite from barrier seven.
Although he has only raced over a mile under Grima's care, Loucasso won the Breeders' Crown over 2240 metres last December.
To begin from gate 10 with Mark Pitt in the cart, I Am The Storm is considered the main danger at $5, with Buzz Bomb on the third line of betting at $19 from barrier eight.
