NEW South Wales raider Jewel Melody is on target to extend her perfect Group One record within the Sunshine State.

A quadruple Group One winner last season as a two-year-old, Jewel Melody registered two of her top shelf victories at Albion Park.

Come Saturday night, the Australian Pacing Gold purchase will chase a hat-trick when she returns for the Queensland Oaks.

Fresh from her success in last weekend’s South East Oaks at the same venue, Jewel Melody has drawn barrier six in the Blue Riband.

“Extremely happy” with the filly’s preparation, trainer Bernie Hewitt is confident Jewel Melody can add the $150,000 feature to her impressive tally.

TAB Fixed Odds justify Hewitt’s belief, with the daughter of Captaintreacherous a $2.30 favourite.

“She couldn’t be in better shape going into this,” Hewitt said. “She’s been up here with my daughter, Gemma, for a while and hasn’t missed a beat.

“When I came up with more horses I even left her where Gemma is stabled rather than risk her resettling again where I am, so everything is spot on at the moment.

“She showed last week she is in top order and she’s going to be right in it again.”

When searching for a danger, Hewitt stated the filly drawn next to Jewel Melody will prove hardest to beat.

Also APG eligible, Peaceful will begin from gate five for leading horsewoman Belinda McCarthy.

“Peaceful has been a thorn in the side on a number of occasions over the shorter distance back home,” Hewitt said. “The Oaks is 2138 metres, but Peaceful is still the biggest danger.”
