HIS older sibling has dominated Miracle Mile night during the past few years, but now it’s time for the ‘Prince’ to ascend to the throne.
By A Rocknroll Dance from Twist And Twirl, Rocknroll Hammer is a half-brother to outstanding pacer, King Of Swing.
Recently-crowned New South Wales Horse of the Year for the third time, King Of Swing became the only triple Miracle Mile winner when he captured last season’s edition at Club Menangle.
King Of Swing’s record-breaking performance in the $1million Garrards-sponsored sprint also doubled as his swansong, with connections retiring the stallion ahead of stud duties.
As for Rocknroll Hammer, he is engaged in Saturday night’s New South Wales Derby, which is part of the phenomenal Miracle Mile program at the world class venue.
Like King Of Swing, Rocknroll Hammer is trained by Belinda McCarthy, who wouldn’t be drawn into a comparison between the pair.
“There’s only one King Of Swing,” McCarthy said. “We hope one day Rocknroll Hammer will be as good as him, but he has a long way to go.
“Rocknroll Hammer is a nice type in his own right, but he can’t be mentioned in the same breath as King Of Swing at the moment…not many can!”
To be driven by McCarthy’s husband, Luke, Rocknroll Hammer will begin from the outside of the front row, while his stablemate, Spirit Of Arion, has fared better in the pole.
On the topic of family, Spirit Of Arion is closely-related to another of his stablemates, Spirit Of Louis, which is poised to contest the Miracle Mile.
Like the three-year-old, ‘Louis’ will begin from barrier one.
Spirit Of Art, dam of Louis and Spirit Of Delight, Arion’s mother, are half-sisters.
In a whole Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon scenario, Miracle Mile runners, Mach Dan and Braeview Kelly also hail from the same family as King Of Swing.
