Covering more ground than early settlers

IN WHAT shapes as a busy 72 hours, Michelle Wight will cover more ground than early settlers this weekend.

Beginning with Saturday, Wight will undertake the 380-kilometre round trip to compete in the opening event on the Melton card with Maximez.

With a win and two placings from his last five starts, Maximez is among the top prospects in the 1720-metre contest.

“He should go well if he behaves,” Wight said. “He gets very enthusiastic, but his head doesn’t run at the same speed as his legs!

“That said, he has been good lately, so fingers crossed.”

The following morning Wight will begin her 160-kilometre journey to Horsham, where she has two runners engaged.

Chillhunnybunny is poised to battle for glory in a support race, while Nosweetsforyou is part of the Horsham Pacing Cup field.

Drawn well in gate four, Chillhunnybunny is tipped to enjoy the conditions.

“Hopefully she will go better than her last start,” Wight said. “She is back to 1700 metres which will suit her better as she prefers the short trip as her win the start before proves.”

Nosweetsforyou has a golden opportunity to continue her solid form after receiving the pole.

The daughter of A Rocknroll Dance has two wins and a second from her last four outings.

“The field was done via preferential draw, so I knew she would get a good starting position,” Wight said. “This will certainly be a test for her, but I’m looking forward to seeing how she goes.

“She will definitely be trying her best, and with the right luck, she could upset them.”

Although the fields haven’t been released yet, Wight has Normandy Nugget nominated for Monday’s Charlton meeting, which will require a 265-kilometre adventure.

“Under the race conditions he should draw well, which will suit as he’s got gate speed,” Wight said. “I’ve only got four horses racing and they’re all going around within a day of each other, so I’ll be doing some travelling.”
