Maiden finally broken after two years!

IT’S been two years in the making, but hobby trainer Daniel Zammit has finally broken his maiden.

Coming close with four seconds and four thirds this season, Zammit registered that elusive victory in Maryborough this afternoon.

“I’m over the moon,” Zammit declared. “Very, very excited.

“It has been about two years that I’ve been training and trying for this win, but geez it is worth it.

“It’s hard work when you have a full-time job, and you certainly do it for the love of it, but it is all worth it when you get a winner!

“That first one is the one you will always remember and this is something I will never forget.”

Zammit’s moment of ecstasy came via Riddlemethis, which broke his string of close calls with Jodi Quinlan in the cart.

Settled midfield from his second row draw, Riddlemethis sustained a strong sprint after being taken three-wide along the back straight to score by two metres from Fireside.

One Last Belle was 11 metres away third in 2:01.8 over 2190 metres.

“He’s been knocking on the door at his last few runs and it is great he finally got there,” Zammit said. “He’s been a very patience-testing horse, but that’s all forgiven at the moment.

“In his earlier days he would race, get stood down, race, get stood down and it’s only been in the last three or four months he’s actually put it together

“I train out of Jodi’s place and her and Taylor Ford have been a great help…they’ve been looking forward to this win as much as I have!”

With no major plans in mind for the son of Tell All, Zammit will “just look for the next race in his class”.
