Cup draw not so bad

ON THE surface barrier two along the second line in tomorrow night’s Strathalbyn Pacing Cup seems like a disappointing draw.

For trainer Paul Cavallaro, however, barrier nine is “just fine” ahead of the Globe Derby-based feature.

Cavallaro will be represented by Artillery in the $20,000 event, which as you can guess, will begin from nine.

Firstly, Cavallaro isn’t overly concerned because Artillery came from the same draw to capture the Kadina Pacing Cup in Port Pirie on March 2.

“It’s not a bad draw,” Cavallaro said. “He won a Cup from there a few weeks ago and I can’t see any reason why he can’t do it again.

“Plus Springfield Affair has drawn in front of him and he comes out alright, so we should be able to push through.

“If he can settle in the first half of the field, he will be right in it.”

Dhaulagiri is among the opposition again, with the Matthew Horsnell-trained veteran the $2 favourite in early betting markets from gate six.

Bellezza Nera splits the pair at $5 from barrier five for trainer David Harding.

“It’s a pretty open field,” Cavallaro said. “You could run the race a dozen times and probably get a dozen different winners depending on which one gets the right run each time.”
