A star during the late 1970s and early ’80s, San Simeon was undefeated during his first 29 starts, which stretched between November 1978 and March 1981.
Maori’s Idol record for the most trotting wins in succession – 24 – has stood since March 1978.
Then there are records like Heatseeker’s.
Having his sixth start from a two-year injury-enforced break, Heatseeker rewarded connections for their faith by scoring in Charlton yesterday.
Trained by father-and-son combination Richard and Emmett Brosnan, Heatseeker led throughout to score by 15 metres in a track record 1:54.7 over 2100 metres.
The Brosnans had little time to savour the moment, however, as Fire Marshall bettered the mark 30 minutes later!
Also setting the pace, Fire Marshall stopped the clock in 1:54.5.
It was a welcome return to form for the Kyle Marshall-trained entire, which had been winless since last October.
“We didn’t last long with the track record, but now may have the record for the shortest time holding a record,” Emmett joked.
“He got a good draw with the Ewa’s (Justice, driver) claim yesterday and was able to take advantage of it.
“We’ve got him in at Ballarat on Thursday night and he’s dawn well again in two, so hopefully he can show the same gate speed.”
Just over an hour later, another track record tumbled as Miki To Success dominated his opposition in the Pacing Cup.
With Jackie Barker in the cart, Miki To Success occupied the ‘death seat’ on his way to a four-and-a-half metre victory from Sanchez, with Le Spartacus nine-and-a-half metres away third.
Despite dragging a flag tyre, the Emma Stewart-trained son of Always B Miki set a track record 1:54.6 over 2570 metres.
