Decision regarding Cup campaign yet to be made
A DECISION is expected to be made over the next few days regarding an interstate campaign with rampaging pacer Cash N Flow.
Registering his twelfth consecutive win at Club Menangle tonight, Cash N Flow is being considered for a trip south to tackle the Victoria Cup.
The Grand Circuit event is scheduled to be run at Tabcorp Park Melton on October 10.
Cash N Flow ventured to Melton last year where he captured the Smoken Up Sprint a week before the Cup only to be unplaced in the Group One as his stablemate Bling It On claimed the glory.
The Sprint is programmed a week before the Cup once again, with trainer Craig Cross stated Cash N Flow is likely to bypass the feature.
“Taking him down for the Victoria Cup is something we are considering,” Cross said. “His owners will be discussing it tomorrow.
“He’s been racing every two to three weeks of late so there is every chance that will continue to be the case meaning he won’t race again before the Cup.
“If he does go we’ll be sending him down with one of the staff and we’ll be looking for a local driver for him as it is too hard to have someone from up here go down and have to quarantine for two weeks just for the race.
“We had planned to send a team down for next Saturday’s meeting in Melton with the state opening up its racing again, but were told by Harness Racing Victoria they aren’t accepting interstate nominations until the 28th, so that changes that plan!”
As for his latest performance, Cash N Flow was caught wide from barrier 10 before being sent forward to find the lead as his stablemate Replaced Eye was eased to take a trail.
Striding clear along the home straight, the son of Mach Three sprinted to a seven-metre win from Replaced Eye, with Zahven Banner a metre-and-a-half away third to complete a Cross-trained trifecta.
With the last half run in 53.9 seconds, Cash N Flow covered the mile in 1:49.8 – the eighth time he has bettered 1:50.
Cash N Flow’s success was also part of a quartet for Cross, who has prepared the winners of 14 races at Menangle during the past week.
Beginning with a treble last Saturday night, Cross won five races on Monday and two the following day.
