FOUR years ago the fairy tale ending worked out perfectly for Our Dream About Me, now this year connections of another top Kiwi mare are hoping for the same result.
In what was her racing swansong, Our Dream About Me captured the prestigious Ladyship Mile at Club Menangle when she covered the 1609-metre trip in 1:50.1 – her fastest time!
Fast forward to Saturday night’s Club Menangle meeting and Stylish Memphis is aiming for a slice of history in what is potentially her last start.
Winner of the last two editions of the Group One – which was renamed the Queen Elizabeth II Mile last season – Stylish Memphis will attempt to become the triple champion of the time-honoured feature.
The six-year-old also happens to be in-foal to siring sensation, Captaintreacherous, with the end of her racing career days away!
“It is 90 per cent certain Saturday night will be her last race,” trainer Jack Trainor said. “If she wins, or goes very well, she may go around again in the Miracle Mile or Bohemian Crystal, but that’s a big maybe.
“She has to get through this week first, so being as it is, this is her last race.”
To be driven by Trainor, Stylish Memphis has drawn poorly in barrier eight.
Set to slot into gate seven with the removal of the emergency, the daughter of Bettors Delight is on the fourth line of betting at $6 with TAB Fixed Odds.
Victorian visitor Tough Tilly is the $3.10 favourite from gate 12.
“She is going well enough to win, but she will need things to go her way from that draw,” Trainor said. “Even though she has drawn wide, Tough Tilly is the one to beat along with her stablemate Amore Vita.”
