Exciting mare to continue rapid rise

EXCITING mare Sister Patrick is expected to have no trouble continuing her rapid rise through the grades this weekend.

Racing in sensational form, Sister Patrick boasts seven wins and a third from eight starts this season for respected horsewoman Claire Goble.

Set to compete during tomorrow night’s Globe Derby meeting, Sister Patrick is a $1.80 favourite to complete her fifth consecutive win.

Successful during her last two outings during her previous campaign, the daughter of Father Patrick completed a clean sweep of The Legends heat and Final in her pair of starts since returning from a break.

Overcoming a 20-metre handicap on both occasions, Sister Patrick will begin from barrier six under mobile conditions this time around.

“She has done a terrific job this year,” Goble said. “She has been a challenge though.

“She should’ve performed better last season at three, but had a few issues such as times when she didn’t want to participate and was being difficult at the barrier.

“She can still have her moments, and some days says ‘I don’t want to do that’, but she has turned the corner and is becoming a very nice trotter.

“Tomorrow night is only a small field, so it doesn’t matter where she settles as she won’t be far off the speed.

“She is best driven as a sit and sprinter, so I’m not too concerned about the draw.”

Although unplaced at his two runs during The Legends, Ima Destroyer is considered the main danger at $2.90 from the pole.

Trained by Tony Pullicino, Ima Destroyer won his two previous outings which were under mobile conditions.

“The market suggests Ima Destroyer is the one to beat,” Goble said. “Looking at the field, I don’t think any of them are beyond winning on their night.”
