Exciting pacer back after two years on sidelines

FRESH from capturing a Group Three at Club Menangle during the weekend, prominent couple Mary and Joe Rando are hoping for a “satisfying” result when they return to the world class venue tomorrow.

Co-trainers of promising squaregaiter Toro Stride, the Randos were thrilled with the five-year-old’s performance to capture the Yamamoto Trotters’ Mile.

With Will Rixon holding the reins, Toro Stride worked to the front from barrier eight as early leader, Itzfergietime, was eased to take a trail.

Bursting clear of the pack during the latter stages, the son of Love You cruised to a 12-metre win from Itzfergietime.

Satin Stride, a stablemate of the winner, was seven metres away third in 1:55.7 over 1609 metres.

“We were pretty confident with him and he ran up to expectations,” Joe said. “He’s a nice type which has only had 25 starts and we’re sure he can keep getting better experience.”

As for the Randos pending quest, they will be represented by exciting comeback pacer Erupt Stride.

Considered a rising star when prepared by Victorian horseman, Russell Jack, Erupt Stride hasn’t raced since a gallant fourth in Ouyen on October 9, 2022.

The son of Bettors Delight boasts five wins and three placings from nine starts.

Four solid trials have given the Randos confidence Erupt Stride can make a winning return.

To be driven by Rixon, Erupt Stride has drawn to search for the front from barrier three over a mile.

“It’s been a long process with him, but he has stood up to all the work put into him, including some good hit outs at the trials.” Joe said. “Now it’s time to see how he handles the rigours of racing.

“From what he has shown during track work, he is a machine and should have no trouble making his way through the grades.

“Just to see him out there knowing the effort put into him is very satisfying, and if he can win first-up, we’ll be thrilled especially for Emilio and Mary (Rosati, owners) as they have given this horse every chance at a comeback.”
